Publisher of Asia newspaper summoned to the Islamic regime’s bureau of enforcement

Iran Press News: According to the regime-run news agency ILNA, Dr. Saghi Bagherinia, publisher of Asia newspaper and wife of celebrated journalist Iradj Jamshidi, whose six months prison sentence was referred to appeals court branch 27 of the revolutionary high tribunal, was summoned to the Islamic regime’s bureau of enforcement of the judiciary.

Prior to this, branch 76 of the regime’s criminal court of the greater Tehran province, charged Dr. Bagherinia with “propaganda for activist group opposing the Islamic regime” and “the promotion of written material that damages the foundations of the Islamic order”; she had been sentenced to six months in jail which was appealed to the supreme court and then confirmed by branch 27 of the revolutionary court.

A while back, Mohammad Raiszadeh, the attorney for the banned newspaper, Asia, wrote a letter to the head of the supreme court, asking that his client’s sentence be rescinded.

Dr. Bagherinia, in her own separate letters to the president of the Islamic regime’s judiciary and the chairman of the special judicial supervision has mentioned that the use of the word “propaganda” in article 500 of the Islamic Penal Code has not been properly interpreted and as such not codified she has therefore requested that her case be reviewed and that the enforcement of her sentence be halted.
