Political activist, Abbass Lesani’s life is in danger in prison

Student committee of human rights reporters announced that the life of political activist, Abbas Lesani is in danger. Lesani who went on hunger strike to protest the Islamic regime’s refusal to allow him to leave prison on a medical furlough, has begun his 24th day of the strike.

According to the Lesani family, he is now in solitary confinement and the jailors are even refusing to provide him with a blanket. Roghiyeh Mohammadi-Alizadeh Lesani's wife said: "Due to the hunger strike, his blood pressure has dropped considerably and he is suffering from various diseases."

Mohammad-Reza Faghihi, Lesani’s lawyer while expressing regret about the treatment of his client emphasized that the regime’s refusal to allow Lesani to go on a medical furlough from prison is considered illegal.

According to the latest reports, Lesani has refused the requests of a number of Azeri political activists to break his hunger strike; he is now suffering from various serious physical ailments and health concerns.

It is necessary to mention that Abbass Lesani was charged with “disrupting social order, public calm and comfort” and was sentenced to 18 months. He was prosecuted by the Ardebil province court of appeals and condemned.
