The verdict of stoning is still issued in the Islamic republic

The media site, Resaaneh’yeh Khabari wrote: “Mohammed-Ali Ibrahim-Khani the director of the appeals and penalty courts of the greater Tehran province spoke about the issuance of the verdict of lapidation (stoning). Ibrahim-Khani said: "If criminality is proven, the judges will certainly issue that verdict and the legislator will not allow for an interchangeable penalty either. Stoning is a specific form of punishment whose conditions differ from that of the death penalty."

In an interview, on Wednesday January 31st, the director of the appeals and penalty courts of the greater Tehran province commented on the method of handling the case of the pornographic CDs* added: "In have discussed this matter with the prosecutor and as a citizen and from his own standpoint he will request that the guilty parties be executed. Our aim is to swiftly and justly examine the cases.”

* These were blurry pornographic videos that were made and distributed around Iran with claims that the individuals in the videos were some of Iran’s most prominent cultural personalities. It is rumored that the Islamic regime itself produced those videos in order to blackmail those individuals.
