Workers protest in front of Gilan province governor’s office

Mohammad Yaghubi, executive Secretary of the workers house of the province of Gilan said that the workers from the KANAF KAR company who have not received their wages for the last seven months, gathered in front of the governor’s office.

According to the regime-run news agency ILNA, Yaghubi said: “The company which is in the business of sack weaving which employs approximately 200 workers in recent years, has gone from being government-owned to privatized. Due to a very heavy snowfall in 2005, 10% of the company’s shop space whose roof was damaged was not fixed, as the company did not have the financial capability to do so. After that following some negotiations with provincial authorities, the company laid the workers off and put them temporarily on unemployment insurance. Now after the passage of one year, our unemployment has run out and the workers commission of the province has approved and announced to the company’s management that the workers must be retuned to work; however they have met with the management’s indifference. Now it has been seven months that the workers have not either been paid or received any benefits and have gathered to protest in front of the governor’s office. These hard-working laborers are now jobless and have no prospects.”
