2006 Saturday 25 NovemberPolitical prisoners protest letter about imprisoned activist’s detentionIran Press News: Activists Keyvan Rafii who was arrested by ministry of intelligence agents during this year’s July 9th commemoration of the 1999 student uprising has been being detained in ward 209 of Evin prison ever since; like Sanjari, Rafii is also under severe physical and psychological torture. Due to his courage and tireless efforts on the political and human rights issues, after his arrest, he was particularly abused, tormented and harassed by the interrogators and torturers of the prison who detained him for 120 days in solitary confinement, without visitation rights, telephone contact with his family and generally cut off from all connections to the outside world. During the first 30 days, he was kept in a room with no light or windows and was interogated for hours on end, that would start at midnight where he was severely beaten, berated and threatened among other horrible treatments that the intelligence agents are known for. Also among other intimidation tactics he has been assigned to a kangaroo court which will be held in a private sessions and without the presence of a jury where his sentence will have been fixed. As such other human rights activists are intimidated and forced into silence and passivity. Therefore, we political prisoners, while condemning these unjust and inhumane actions of the ministry of intelligence with regard to our brave fellow activist Keyvan Rafii who is being held in the most horrifying and obscure conditions, would like to ask for his immediate and unconditional release. We call upon human rights organizations to assist us in supporting and securing Keyvan Rafii’s release. Behrouz Javid-Tehrani (Rajaii City prison - political prisoner) |
