2006 Thursday 14 DecemberAn earthquake in Tehran could be one of the most disastrous of catastrophes of our nationIran Press News: General Rahim Safavi, the commander of the Revolutionary Guard, announced: “An earthquake in Tehran could be one of the most disastrous of catastrophes of our nation.” According to the regime-run news agency ILNA, Safavi, who spoke at the 3rd international health, treatment, crisis management and force majeures congress said: “Tehran’s earthquake is extremely dangerous and we should be fully prepared to deal with this incident. Iran is highly susceptible to earthquakes and there are about 100 fault lines that run throughout the country, 12 of which have been recorded as running through Tehran.” According to Safavi, Iran has always been exposed to earthquake and the crisis management headquarters should always be completely ready. He clarified: “We should not forget that the December 2003 Bam earthquake and the March 2006 Lorestan earthquake will recur and if it happens in Tehran, the volume of the incident, the number of deaths and destruction would be considerably more. The provinces of Tehran, Tabriz, Khorasan, Fars and Kerman are extremely earthquake-prone and we must be prepared and have serious and feasible plans for those province. 31% of the natural disasters occur in Iran and based on this, 90% of the people are in danger.” |
