Biggest Gold Mine Discovered in Iran's East Azarbayjan Province

Tabriz, East Azarbayjan Province, 27 August: The head of the Industry and Mines Organization of East Azarbayjan Province has said that recently the biggest gold mine in the province with possible reserves of 280,000 t have been discovered in Varzeqan town.

On Wednesday [27 August], Mohammadali Banan told a press conference that an average of 7.2 per cent of gold in per ton of ore, IRNA reported.

Banan also reported that building a gold production factory close to the gold mine is on the agenda to separate gold from ore. The gold processing plant will be built in cooperation with a private company. He went on to say that the plant would produce 325.9 kg of gold per year.

He said the amount of necessary allocations for building this plant are 70bn rials [around 7.7m dollars] and 1.5m dollars.

The Kharvana gold mine is situated in Ahar town in East Azarbayjan province and it has been commissioned at the moment.
