Monday 12 July 2010Dissident Cleric Protests Harsh Prison ConditionsRAHANA- During this prison visit, Ayatollah Boroujerdi expressed his protest to the deplorable condition of Evin prison and pointed out that Evin was turning into a concentration camp. Reports received by RAHANA indicate that Ayatollah Boroujerdi also mentioned a number of tortures withstood by prisoners, such as high number of prisoners in crowded cells, poor and unhealthy nutrition, old and rusty equipments, severe shortage of sanitary and medical facilities, lack of hot water, ban of face-to-face prison visits for political detainees and prisoners of conscience, forcing prisoners into hard labour and tranferring them into unsafe and dangerous wards. According to this report, the officials and prison visitors did not deny any of the mentioned issues, and said that is how every government treats its dissidents! Previously released news indicated that the authorities of Clercis Special Court had threatened Ayatollah Boroujerdi to send him into exile to a remote and abandoned location without any communication means. Dissident cleric Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi was arrested in 2007 and is currently detained in Evin prison. He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and confiscation of all his belongings and property. |
