Shahrzad News:The number of abortions undergone by Iranian women in the 18-19 age group is increasing, with many single women becoming pregnant after entering unwillingly into relationships or being forced into prostitution by poverty.
Leading gynaecologist Dr. Janette Mahjouri commented: “Most of the young women who come to our clinic for an abortion are from poor families. Some may have been forced into arranged marriages by their parents for economic reasons, others might have begun relationships without family consent. Once pregnant they often seek abortions because they do not want a child by a husband they do not love, or one that will be illegitimate. The main concern is that many of these young women go to underground clinics that pose a serious threat to their lives.”
