Thursday 23 December 2010Increasing Human casualties in earthquakes in Kerman
RAHANA, While the relief activities and injured rescue in Kerman are constantly increasing, due to lack of hospital and emergency care death toll is rapidly growing in that area. It has been reported the injured have to travel nearly 100 km to Bam, to reach the nearest hospital. While the earthquake in Reagan, east of Kerman province destroyed nearly 800 thousand homes, only 26 people were pronounced dead at that time. These statistics are given by authorities while nearly 500 families have not been evaluated by authorities due to landslides. According to officials, as of yet 30 villages have not been reached and are still awaiting initial relief. The probability of increased death toll in these villages is estimated very high. Published statistics are only on surrounding villages, and mountain villages have not yet been evaluated. At this time injured from Reagan and Fahraj cities are being transferred to Bam hospital to receive treatments and have to travel more than 100 km to reach these hospitals. On this issue Reagan’s governor stated: “Unfortunately one of the main problems of Reagan is lack of hospitals which has increased since the earthquake.” Mohammad Barzang added: “due to lack of proper medical facilities injured are being transferred to nearby cities at this time.” He added: “as the relief continues, it has become more focused on mountainous areas.” |
