Eight people hanged in Qom

Iran Human Rights, January 1st 2011: Eight people were hanged in the prison of Qom, south of Tehran.

According to the state run news agency Fars, eight people were hanged in the prison of Qom. Quoting Mostafa Barzegar Ganji, the prosecutor of Qom, the people who were hanged in Qom today were all convicted of drug trafficking and were sentenced to death by the revolutionary court. According to the report these eight were hanged during the last week.

Barzegar also said that 16 others are sentenced to death for drug trafficking and their sentences will be implemented soon.

Four people were hanged earlier today convicted of Moharebeh (war against the God).

According to official reports 32 people have been executed since decemer 20.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human rights, had previously warned about an execution wave during the Christmas holidays when the world focus is away from Iran.
