Execution of Jafar Kazemi and Ali Haj Aghaie Halted

On January 18th, Jafar Kazemi and Mohamad Ali Haj Aghaie were transferred to solitary confinement [to be executed the next morning before dawn]. However, and for unknown reasons, the execution was halted last minute.

Based on reports by HRANA, Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj Aghaie were taken out of ward 350, without any prior notice, and transferred to ward 209 for the purpose of making forced televised confessions. However, these two prisoners of conscience sentenced to death refused to do so.

After setting the stage for the execution and stopping the sentence, Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj Aghaie were returned to ward 350 at 8:00am on January 19th.

Editor’s Note: In a recent execution case, a team from Tehran was sent on January 2nd to Orumiyeh central prison to carry out the execution of Kurdish Iranian activist Hossein Khezri, according to HRANA. However, due to unknown reasons, prison officials decided to postpone the implementation of the sentence. Eventually, on January 15th, Hossein Khezri was hanged in Orumiyeh central prison.
