Beatings was regime’s response to Women’s Day

Iran Channel, Security forces took to the streets in full battle gear, blocking peaceful protesters, tear-gassing them, and beating them with truncheons during the March 9 International Women’s Day demonstrations.

The Iranian regime forbade foreign journalists from reporting, so once again the coverage is coming from opposition web sites, blogs, and cell phone videos.

Agence France Presse (AFP) is reporting on conflicting messages from opposition websites as to the whereabouts of abducted Green Movement leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi and their wives.

Videos are currently fragmentary, but this snip from a Tehran street, shot from a car on March 8, gives an idea of the security presence. The forces appear disorganized and unable to control people, lashing out fecklessly with half-hearted baton strikes and kicks.
