Iranian Citizens Victims of New ‘Fear Gas’

Persian2English – Since Iran’s February 14th opposition protests, security forces have taken new, more damaging and inhumane actions against Iranian citizens. Anti-riot police forces sprayed what people first thought was tear gas at the protesters, but in the days that followed, Iranian citizens began to speak up about experiencing delayed symptoms. Ashkan Monfared, a web blogger and human rights activist exposed to the gas told Rooz Online that he was connected to an ivy for four hours because of the disruption in the amounts of potassium and magnesium in his blood that was a result of the new gas.” On February 24th, HRANA published a letter by a group of Iranian doctors to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon about the new chemical gases that are collectively called “fear gas” for causing a sense of fear and terror in the patient. Based on the developments by the doctors, the blood samples taken from the patients show levels of phenylalanine, nitrite, and sulfur. The gas also contains carcinogens that can lead to cancer.

The letter outlines the immediate and long-term effects of the gases on the environment, the demonstrators, and the people who live in areas near the protest rallies. The signatories request for an expert delegation to be sent to Iran to investigate the various aspects and impacts of the dangerous chemical gases fired at the protesters.
