In a meeting in Tehran with Afghani PM Hamid Karzai, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad offered his country's assistance in achieving security in Afghanistan, adding that, were it not for the U.S. presence there, Afghanistan would be capable of ensuring its own security. Karzai said that increased cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan would benefit both countries.In a meeting in Tehran with Pakistani Speaker of the National Assembly Fahmida Mirza, Ahmadinejad said that the ties between Iran and Pakistan were permanent and indissoluble, and accused the U.S. of causing the spread of terrorism in Pakistan.
