Tuesday 29 March 2011Next steps in Iran sanctions – targeting the choke points
The Heritage Foundation is sponsoring a public discussion April 7 to tighten the economic noose around the Islamic Republic of Iran and to lift the crane to choke the regime. The event, to be held at Heritage’s headquarters in Washington, DC but viewable worldwide via webcast, features Ilan Berman of the American Foreign Policy Council; Mark Dubowitz of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies; and Ariel Cohen and James Phillips of the Heritage Foundation. “In the past Iran has used its oil wealth to fund its nuclear weapons program,” Heritage says in an announcement. “However, the Islamic Republic’s dependence on foreign investment and technology needed to shore up declining energy production, has weakened the regime’s economic base. “The latest rounds of UN sanctions as well as unilateral sanctions by the European Union and Japan show that the international community is willing to take action against the nuclear threat. To increase pressure on Tehran, the US must also enforce its own sanctions and lead international efforts to target Iran’s choke points. Join us as our panel of experts discusses the options available to the United States by preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.” The event is Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM in the Lehrman Auditorium, 214 Massachusetts Avenue NE, Washington DC. Those wishing to participate must register here. Those wishing to view the event online may do so at Heritage.org, and may receive an e-mail reminder by registering here. Source: Iran Channel |
