Thursday 31 March 2011Funeral of Mousavi father overshadowed by security forces
Security forces reportedly arrested at least seven people including a female mourner, during funeral proceedings held for Mir Esmail Mousavi on Thursday. Reports indicate a heavy security presence during today’s ceremony which was cut short by security forces who threatened and shouted at mourners. Sources have told the Green Voice of Freedom that Mousavi’s brother-in-law Mir Hossein Habibi Mousavi (father of slain green protester Ali Mousavi), Mr Salimi (Mousavi’s son-in-law), former reformist MP Ali Shakouri-Rad and Mr Nourollahian (Mousavi advisor) were among those arrested today’s funeral proceedings. Shiite cleric and Mousavi advisor Mr Nourollahian was reportedly arrested in front of the house where mourners were commemorating the death of Mir Esmail Mousavi. He was taken to an unknown location by security forces. Reports suggest that his arrest was carried out in a violent and disrespectful manner. Nourollahian is a former staff member at the house of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as well as a former Intelligence Ministry deputy. He lost two brothers during Iran's eight-year war with Iraq in the 80s. Ali Shakouri-Rad, a senior member of the Islamic Iran Participation Front (IIPF) was released in a remote location a few hours after being apprehended by the security forces. Mir Esmail Mousavi, father of former prime minister and current Green Movement leader Mir Hossein Mousavi died at his home in Tehran on Wednesday at the age of 103. Mousavi and his wife Zahra Rahnavard were allowed to say their final farewells to their father last night, though the couple were accompanied by a sizeable number of security forces. They continue to be under house arrest. It should be noted that prior to the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Ali Khamenei, who had been pursued by the Shah's regime, was offered sanctuary in the house of Mousavi's father which became his sanctuary for a while; the same house in which Mir Esmail Mousavi died yesterday.
