Tuesday 26 April 2011Send letters to green leaders under house arrest
“The Campaign to Write Letters to Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard,” is a new initiative launched last week by Green Movement activists with the aim of spreading the messages of both Iranians and non-Iranians across the globe to the house (or prison rather) of Mir Hossein Mousavi in Tehran. Last week, the campaign’s official website published a call for action urging Green Movement supporters to start writing letters for Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard who have been under house arrest since 14 February. “Get a pen and paper right now and write a letter for the leaders of the opposition movement, place it inside an envelope, and on it, write the address of Mousavi’s house,” urges the campaign. “We now that the almost certainly, these letters will not reach the hands of their intended recipients Mousavi and Rahnavard, and the government will block the letters [from reaching them]. Our guess is that Iran’s intelligence forces will take these letters to their headquarters and read them. And even if this happens, so what? With the thousands of letters we mail to Mousavi and Rahnavard, letters that might end up on the desk of security agents instead of reaching these [green] leaders, we shall send shivers to the authoritarians in Iran.” The organisers of the campaign told opposition website Kaleme, that they intend to launch a similar initiative to write letters to the Green Movement’s other leader Mahdi Karroubi and his wife. “Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, leaders in Iran’s opposition Green Movement, are under house arrest without trial or any judicial ruling. The letter-writing campaign to Mousavi and Rahnavard urges all those in and out of Iran who oppose the violation of the rights and unjust captivity of Mousavi and Rahnavard to write letters to the leaders of the opposition movement.” “With our countless letters which we will send from all corners [of the world], we shall overwhelm Iran’s postal services with our freedom-loving mails and send a clear message to the establishment: set our leaders free,” the campaign said. “We also call on all freedom-seeking Iranians and non-Iranians across the world to send their letters to Iranian embassies in their countries of residence, in addition to Mousavi’s address.” If you live outside of Iran and wish to join the letter campaign in support of the Green Movement leader and his wife, you can do so using the following address: Akhtar Alley 26 You can also take pictures of your letters/messages or just scan a copy and send them to the campaign for publishing on the website.
