The website Ayande News reported, citing a senior official in the Iranian regime, that President Ahmadinejad's political future hinged on his relationship with his associate Rahim Mashai, whom the regime considers to represent a "deviant faction." The website stated that, if Ahmadinejad wants to serve out his term in office (until 2013) and thereafter retain his reputation as a former regime official, he must renounce Mashai.
