Khamenei Calls for Palestinian Rule over All of Palestine

In a June 4, 2011 speech, on the 22nd anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Khomeini, founder of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei attacked President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his associate Rahim Mashaei for deviating from the principle of the Rule of the Jurisprudent, saying that anyone who tries to distort the principles and values of the regime is a deviant and a traitor. Khamenei said that, according to the legacy of Khomeini, regime leaders are not immune to criticism and that one's family ties did not guarantee one's position in the regime. He praised the opening of the Rafah crossing, cautioning Egypt not to be taken in by the friendly appearance of the U.S. which he said was attempting, by means of financial assistance, to reestablish its influence in Egypt. He also said that the Palestinians must establish a regime to govern all of Palestine, which belonged to them in its entirety and was indivisible, and that the regime's nature as well as the fate of the Zionists living in its midst should be decided by referendum.

In another event the same day, President Ahmadinejad called for the struggle against the U.S. and Israel to be considered the number one priority on Iran's global agenda, and said that there would be unrest in the region as long as Israel existed on even one inch of the land of Palestine. He called for the end of the U.S. and Israel, but quickly reworded his statement to call for "the end of U.S. rule in the region." The website Aftab noted that Ahmadinejad's speech met with cries of "Death to those who oppose the Rule of Jurisprudent" alongside cries in support of Khamenei. It should be noted that the speech, unlike past speeches by Ahmadinejad, was not aired in its entirety on Iranian television.
