Thursday 23 June 2011Six more political prisoners join hunger strike
Six more Iranian political prisoners began a hunger strike in order to support the 12 political prisoners who have been on hunger strike. Keyvan Samimi, Isa Saharkhiz, Masoud Bastani, Ali Ajami, Jafar Eghdami and Heshmatollah Tabarzadi have announced they are lending their support to the dozen prisoners on strike at Evin Prison. The hunger strike was triggered by the deaths of Haleh Sahabi, who died when her father’s funeral was raided by security forces, and Reza Hoda Saber, who died 10 days into a hunger strike that was in protest of Sahabi’s death. They are requesting justice for the perpetrators and to hold the authorities responsible for the safety of prisoners. Emadeddin Baghi, Bahman Ahmadi Amouyi, Amir-Khosro Delirsani, Hassan Asadi-Zeidabadi, Emad Bahavar, Ghorban Behzadian-nejad, Mohammad Davari, Feizollah Arab-Sorkhi, Abolfazl Ghadyani, Mohammad Javad Mozafar, Mohammad Reza Moghayeseh and Abdollah Momeni are the prisoners who had signed the hunger strike letter. Mehdi Eghbal, Islamic National Front Member, joined the hunger strike since Sunday. Mohsen Aminzadeh, another prominent political activist jailed during the 2009 protests against the controversial re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has taken his place among the hunger strikers. He had been summoned to prison during his furlough since he participated in Saber’s funeral. Jailed journalist Emadeddin Baghi, one of the hunger strikers at Evin Prison, was released on Monday at the end of his sentence. Mohammad Javad Mozafar has taken a prison leave in order to go to at mother in law’s funeral. Source: Human Rights House of IRAN |
