Friday 01 July 2011Action of solidarity with all political prisoners in Iran
MehrIran - Faces of Resistance in Iran. From 1st July until 31st July, over a period of 31 days, www.mehriran.de will show daily a face and a short description of another man or woman imprisoned due to his/her opposition against the regime. On the right, the picture of a German man or woman is shown in solidarity with the prisoner. In the middle, there will be a poem or music which is related to Iran. With this action, we build bridges between prisoners in Iran and the German people who draw attention to the prisoners and the situation in Iran. The 31 Iranian detainees represent all the political prisoners in Iran. The 31 activists symbolically stand for the many activists worldwide who unselfishly have the voice of the persecuted in Iran heard in the western countries. The action does not focus on the individuals or highlight their achievements. These are merely examples of solidarity, examples of a growing concern and the necessity to support each other all over the world with relation to self-determination, positive development and human rights. It is an appeal to all to continue to be vigilant. Through music and poetry, the action is a tribute to freedom, self-determination and worldwide solidarity. Once a political prisoner, who was arrested as a teenager in Iran because he was interested in philosophy, said: “The worst in jail is the feeling of being forgotten. The best thing is the discovery that complete strangers are paying attention to us." Picture action "A Face for Human Rights in Iran" on the streets of Europe for the citizens in Iran who quite rightly raise their voices. The International Organization to Preserve Human Rights in Iran calls on all activists around the world to participate in the photo session, "A face for human rights in Iran".
