Iran's supreme leader warns against internal disputes

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned on Monday against fueling disputes among Iranian officials and creating clamor in the country, stressing the importance of unity, the local satellite Press TV reported.

"One of the most important and necessary matters for the continuation, the perfection and the progressive movement of the Islamic revolution is to avoid fueling the atmosphere of dispute, chaos and clamor in the society, and all the political and ideological currents and organs must be practically committed to safeguarding unity," Khamenei said in a meeting with the commanders of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

"Do those who fuel such disputes not see the contentment of foreign propaganda machines and their analyses? The happiness of the enemy shows that this issue is a weakness (for us) and therefore it must be stopped," he was quoted as saying.

"All must stand against the enemy like an impenetrable wall and in a united front" to maintain the progressive and revolutionary movement of the Islamic establishment, he said.

Bitter controversies have broken out in the past months among the Iranian parliament, conservative clergymen and some high- ranking military officials over Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's administration and some political issues.

A motion signed by 100 Iranian lawmakers to question Ahmadinejad was presented last week to the presiding board of the Mjlis, or parliament.

Amid the disputes, Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that the government will cooperate with the Mjlis to get the country's work done.
