French newspaper Les Echos said Friday that Iran is ready to offer $5.8 billion to Syria in aid, Reuters reported.
The French daily cited a report in the Iranian Center for Strategic Research, which is a group with close ties to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the news agency added.
Reuters also cited the report as saying that Iran could “provide 290,000 barrels of oil to Syria each day over the next month while helping to boost border controls to stop Syrians from fleeing the country for Lebanon with cash.”
Western powers are pressing for more stringent sanction on Syria as protests in the country continue to swell since their start in mid-March.
