Labor Activist Ends Hunger Strike

Shahrokh Zamani, member of the Organizing Committee of Painters’ Labor Syndicate, who had spent 34 uninterrupted days in solitary confinement, was sent from City of Tabriz Intelligence Bureau to the Tabriz Prison on July 13. Zamani who had entered the seventh day of his hunger strike in response to his illegal detention, ended it upon request by fellow-inmates at Tabriz Prison.

According to Zamani’s family, he is in a rather poor physical and mental state at present. Also, his prison conditions are appalling and he is in need of medical assistance. As of now, there are no charges brought up against him.

Shahrokh Zamani was detained on the evening of June 9 en route to Tehran from Tabriz. He is kept in detention without any legal reason given.
