Tuesday 19 July 20113 young men hanged in public in Kermanshah
Iran Human Rights, Three young men were hanged publicly in the Azadi Square in Kermanshah (western Iran) on July 19th at 10:00am. According to the official website of the Kermanshah Judiciary, the men were identified as Javad A., Milad Gh., and Javad A.. They were convicted of kidnapping and raping a girl on April 25th. The ages of the three men were not mentioned in the report but, according to the report, they had an average age of 21 years and two months. The final verdict was issued at a local court only 18 days after the alleged offence. One week later the sentence was approved by the Supreme Court. The execution order was finalized by the head of the Iranian judiciary on July 10th. Iran Human Rights (IHR) strongly condemns today’s public executions in Kermanshah. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said the fact that the final death sentence was issued only 18 days after the alleged crime indicates these men were not subjected to a proper and standard judicial process. "We cannot rule out there were no minor offenders among those executed today since only an average age of 21 years and two months was announced by the officials," he added. In regard to global action, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said, "The world community must condemn the barbaric public executions that are meant to spread fear onto the society." |
