Zeidabadi returns to the brutal Rajai Shahr prison

Ahmad Zeidabadi was issued an [indefinite] extension on his two-day prison furlough when he arrived to Rajai Shahr ‘Gohrdasht’ prison to turn himself in to prison authorities, according to the Kaleme website. 12 hours later, he was summoned to return to prison again. Ahmad Zeidabadi is currently imprisoned in the brutal Rajai Shahr prison.

The Revolutionary Court had sentenced Ahmad Zeidabadi to the heavy and inhumane sentence of six years in prison, and five of those years have to be spent in prison exile. The court also issued him a life-time ban from: political activities, participation and support of parties, giving interviews, and presenting speeches and oral or written analyses. The Appeals Court upheld the sentence.

In May 2011, an independent international jury of 12 media professionals selected imprisoned journalist Ahmad Zeidabadi as the laureate of this year’s UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize. Additionally, in October 2010, he received the the 2010 Golden Pen of Freedom award, which is the annual press freedom prize of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
