Wednesday 17 August 201113 human science courses cancelled at Tehran Uni
Courses in journalism, public relations, social science, educational science, educational planning and management, special needs for disabled children, pre-school education, philosophy, economic sciences, accounting and psychology have been targeted. ShahrzadNews:The Alameh University, which is part of the University of Tehran, has removed thirteen human science courses from its curriculum, just one week before Iran’s national university exams. Courses in journalism, public relations, social science, educational science, educational planning and management, special needs for disabled children, pre-school education, philosophy, economic sciences, accounting and psychology have been targeted. Various Iranian officials said they did not know why the courses had been culled. The university’s board of governors however responded to public criticism by claiming that the decision had been made “owing to the low numbers of students wishing to study these subjects.” Other sources at the university told the press that the courses would soon be reinstated. For some months now, officials at Iran’s Ministry of Sciences have been warning that certain university courses “promote feminist and Marxist ideology,” human science courses in particular.
