Monday 29 August 2011Iran mass-produces anti-armor rockets
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has officially inaugurated the mass production line of anti-armor rockets to destroy tanks, armored vehicles and enemy's ammunition depots. The 73-millimeter portable rocket has a warhead which can destroy targets at a distance of 1,300 meters, IRNA quote Vahidi as saying on Monday. He added that the lightweight rockets with high precision and armor-penetration power are suitable for ground and tactical operations that can play an important role in destroying targets in close and distance strikes and regular and irregular wars. Iran's Defense Ministry designs and produces weapon with the purpose of increasing the operational mobility of the armed forces, Vahidi noted. He added that the mass-production of anti-armor rockets was another proof of high capabilities of Iran's defense industry to counter threats. On Saturday, Iran launched the first domestically-run production line of carbon fiber, a strategic material used in defense systems as well as civilian projects. In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. Press TV |
