The Association for the Defense of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners in Iran has claimed that three civilians have been killed in clashes between security forces and residents of the East Azerbaijan Province in Northwestern Iran.
According to the association, the regime conducted several arrests, including of injured people who were admitted to hospitals.
The clashes came as the result of protests in the province following the Majlis rejection of a law meant to prevent Lake Orumiyeh – a cultural symbol in Iran, and a source of income for locals – from drying up.
