Friday 04 November 2011Qazvin Naznakh and Farnakh Textile Workers Protest
On October 23, a group of workers from Qazvin Naznakh and Farnakh Textile Company gathered by the presidential offices protesting not having received their back wages. The workers numbering around 100 were asking the officials for aid in their dispute. One of the protesting workers told Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) that the workers had not received their wages for 20 months. The company has been facing financial difficulties for the past ten years. Two years ago, after coming under new management, the company was shut down and the workers became unemployed under the pretext of restructuring. A year later, the president ordered the officials to see to the workers demands. Nothing has happened since then. The workers are seeking official action in this regard. A group of fifty of Naznakh, Farnakh and Mahnakh textile workers also staged a gathering at the Parliament building seeking help from the MP’s. The workers chanted: “People’s deputy come to people’s help”, “justice, justice, where is the enforcer of justice?”, “the plunderer of people’s wealth should be punished” and carried signs saying: “We the workers of Farnakh, Mahnakh, and Naznakh factories are asking for 20 months of our back wages”, “We the employees at Farnakh, Mahnakh, and Naznakh are asking for the immediate implementation of the government promises in the province of Qazvin” and “Mr. President deliver on your promise, solve our problems”. The workers of the three troubled Qazvin textile plants had staged other protests in the past. Source: Iran Labor Report |
