Iran sentences two 16 year old boys to death

The 6th branch of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of a 16 year old boy named Shayan Omidi along with his 24 year old friend named Sajjad.

According to reports from Gilan, one of the two prisoners that Iranian state-run media calls ‘elements of the murder of the iron merchant and his family’ is Shayan Omidi who was 16 years old at the time of the October 7, 2010 murder.

According to reports, Sajjad, Shayan and Sobhan broke into a merchant’s house and killed 46 year old Farzad Omidi, his wife Sarieh Dadashzadeh, 44 and their son 18 year old Parham Omidi.

Twenty four year old Sajjad, his 16 year old brother Sobhan and 16 year old Shayan are the merchant’s nephews.

The Supreme Court sentenced Sajjad to two death sentences for the murder of Sarieh and Parham and prison term for complicity in the murder of Farzad. Shayan was also sentenced to death on charges of killing his uncle and prison for his complicity in murder. Sobhan was sentenced to life in prison on charges of complicity in three murders and robbery. (Human Rights Activists in Iran, state-run Aftab website– Nov. 18, 2011)
