12 arrested in Iran for espionage, intelligence chief says

Deutsche Presse-Agentur

Tehran - Iran has arrested 12 people on charges of espionage, the country's intelligence chief said Monday.

The suspects had been charged with spying in various governmental circles, Fars news agency quoted Heydar Moslehi as saying.

Moslehi did not give details nor address earlier reports that the 12 were suspected spies of the US Central Intelligence Agency.

Iran frequently announces the arrest of spies and espionage rings linked to the US or Israel, without publicly presenting evidence.
