Thursday 15 December 2011Santorum in Iowa: Iran is “a huge threat to the world”Iowa Caucuses 2012 Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum told a group of Iowa conservatives today that Iran is a “huge threat to the world” and“ we need to at all costs to stop iran from getting a nuclear weapon.’ The Pennsylvania Republican spoke to an overflow crowd of more than 125 people this morning at the Westside Conservative Breakfast Club, which met at the Machine Shed Restaurant in Urbandale. Santorum criticized President Barack Obama, saying the president may oppose a nuclear-armed Iran, but isn’t doing anything to stop it. Santorum warned that Iran wants to “wipe Israel off the face of the earth,” and he said Republicans cannot afford to be isolationists. He said that when he spoke of the threat of Iran during his losing 2006 Senate race, he was accused of being a war monger. “No, I was trying to keep us out of another war,” he said. Asked about the recent crash of a U.S. surveillance drone in Iran, Santorum said he would have favored destroying it to prevent it from falling into the hands of Iranians. But he said that in fairness, “I don’t specifically see how this was President Obama’s fault. At least operationally, Ii think it was a failure of the folks who were operating this and doing this mission.” www.DesMoinesRegister.com |
