Teacher sentenced to death – pardon denied

Freedom Messenger -- Political prisoner Abdolreza Ghanbari’s pardon was rejected – sentenced to death.

HRNA report: Ghanbari’s apology was rejected in the commission of Justice in Tehran.

This teacher is at risk of being executed.

Ghanbari’s family said in an interview with HRNA that they are deeply worried after hearing about the rejection by the Commission of Justice in Tehran.
According to HRNA report: Abdolreza Ghanbari, a school teacher and a university professor of Persian literature at Pakdasht -the northern province of Tehran was arrested in the 27th of December in 2009 during an Ashura commemoration with the charge of “waging war against God”.

He was sentenced to death by Judge Salavati according to the 15th branch of Tehran’s revolutionary court.
He was later processed unlawfully in ambiguity where he had no right to appeal against these allegations.

According to these reports: Mr. Ghanbari were hopeful that with the application sent to the Amnesty commission and with the judicial mercy to review his appeal and consider the content of his rights that has been abused to once again be revised.
But the “Court of Judgment” rejected this appeal and after getting the head of the judiciary’s validation of this charge, any day from now on, his execution can be implemented.

This political prisoner which already is in section 350 of the Evin prison has been condemned to death for the association with the “People’s Mojahedin organization of Iran”
It is noteable to mention that during his arrest, Mr.Ghanbari has been denied access to a lawyer. been interrogated and beaten several times where he forcibly confessed unrealistic charges brought up against him.

A review of the legal cases which have been violated in this report:
• Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

- Every individual right to life, liberty and personal security.
• Section 1; article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights:

- The human has an inherent right to life. This right should be protected under law.
• Paragraph 2; Article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Second Optional Protocol to abolish the death penalty: States that: all necessary measures to abolish the death penalty within its jurisdiction should be arranged.
