Hamas would cease to exist without Iran's support

Speaking at a ceremony marking 20 years to the attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, FM says West Bank, Gaza will not be unified for 'generations'

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Monday that without Iranian support, the future of terror groups in Gaza would be questionable.

Speaking at a ceremony marking 20 years to the attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, Lieberman said Iran provides “oxygen” to Hamas and other terror organizations by providing them with funds and weapons.

Lieberman said that “it is now known to all that Iran stood behind the 1992 attacks through Hezbollah,” adding that it is “tragic” that some of those behind the attack freely operate to plan attacks against Israeli targets worldwide.

Lieberman further stated that there will not be any unification between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as long as Hamas controls the former. “As long as Hamas controls the Gaza Strip, there is no chance that we will agree to a passageway between the two territories,” he added.

“The Palestinians have destined themselves to a separation that will last for generations,” said Lieberman.

Moreover, Lieberman announced that Israel will begin building a new embassy in Buenos Aires in 2012, saying that it will “immortalize the memory of the victims of the attack” and serve as a sign that terror “will not make us budge nor scare us.”
