IDF spokesman: Iran 'pulling strings' in Gaza, Lebanon

"The latest incidents in the south show us who's really pulling the strings," IDF Spokesman Brigadier-General Yoav Mordechai wrote on his Facebook page, on which he posted a caricature depicting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a puppeteer operating marionettes in the image of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas Prime Minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh.

"The ayatollahs' regime in Iran continues to operate branches in Lebanon and Gaza and is supporting them with knowledge, weapons and money," the spokesman wrote.

However, he wrote, the IDF was keeping a watchful eye on Iran's activities in the region.

Some readers responded to the post with criticism over the IDF's handling of the rocket fire emanating from Gaza. "With all due respect to the army, why are they (Palestinian terrorists) still launching rockets at the south? It would be interesting to see what would happen if a rocket lands in Tel Aviv tomorrow," one user commented. "I'm sure the army's conduct vis-à-vis Gaza would be different."

Another Facebook user wrote: "It doesn't matter who is pulling the strings. What matters is that the rocket fire disrupts our daily life and forces us to return to the shelters."
