US man taken off Dubai to Seattle flight for treatment in Iran

NewsCore -- An American was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tehran on Saturday after an Emirates flight from Dubai to Seattle was diverted to the Iranian capital when the 52-year-old man suffered a heart attack, Iran's ISNA news agency reported.

The Emirates flight was in Iranian airspace when the man became ill, forcing the pilots to land the plane at Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, according to Abbas Mosayebi, public relations chief for Iran's Civil Aviation Organization.

"This emergency landing was due to a heart attack with one of the passengers," Mosayebi was quoted as saying by ISNA.

A medical team was at the airport to take the man to the hospital. The name of the American was not disclosed.

The Swiss embassy in Tehran -- which handles US interests in Iran -- declined to confirm or deny the report to AFP, referring enquiries to officials in Washington.

Mosayebi's office told AFP on Saturday that the American was still in the Tehran hospital.

The Dubai-based airline did not respond when contacted by NewsCore for comment.
