Iran began a study to assess oil and gas shale deposits in the country, according to the oil ministry website.
The studies are due to be completed within four years, the website said, citing Seyed Mahmoud Mohaddes, exploration director of the National Iranian Oil Co. Shale formations in Iran are mainly estimated to contain oil, he said.
