Will Israel strike Iran this fall?

A top, well-connected analyst in Israel is speculating that Israel may launch a preemptive strike against Iran this fall in order to eradicate Iran's nuclear weapon program.

Amnon Abramovich, a top commentator on Israel's Channel 2 news, drew up this prospect because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this past weekend that Israel will hold its elections a year earlier than originally scheduled.

Abramovich also concluded that Netanyahu would have no need to worry about voter sentiment if the attack does take place and that President Barack Obama will be paralyzed due to the United States presidential election in November.

This rules out condemnation or punishment of Israel for not listening to President Obama's wishes of a delayed strike until next year or beyond.

Israel will hold their elections this September, with polls already showing Netanyahu winning handedly.

If Netanyahu does win re-election, he will lead a new transition government for several weeks, while the Israelis form a new coalition.

Abramovich also noted that in the recent weeks, Netanyahu has suggested that military action against Iran has to be taken within months or face a second Holocaust.

Despite President Obama and the rest of the world not standing behind Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accomplished one thing when it comes to the threat of a nuclear Iran:

He forced Obama and the European Union to actually take the possibility of Iran with nuclear weapons seriously.

President Obama has been forced to impose sanctions against Iran, due to the fact that the support of Israel has now become a major campaign liability in the 2012 presidential election.

On the Republican side, you see full support for Israel launching strikes against Iran and on the Democrat side; you see less support for Israel and no support for attacks on Iran.

You can even boil this down to the Jewish vote. As Abramovich correctly noted, Obama will be paralyzed if Israel strikes Iran.

It would be complete political suicide for him to condemn Israel for attacking Iran and it could sway the Jewish voters to supporting presumptive Republican nominee, Mitt Romney.

As for the European Union, Netanyahu has forced them to threaten imposing an oil embargo of Iran, potentially changing the Middle Eastern game completely.

Despite Abramovich's belief that Israel will strike Iran this fall, his scenario does present a different ending.

If President Obama truly believed that Netanyahu was plotting for an attack this fall, it could force the president and his European allies to get tougher with Iran' even potentially tough enough to convince Netanyahu not to strike Iran's nuclear program, until the Western powers were ready to support Israel.

Since Abramovich made these claims that Israel was plotting for a fall strike, sources close to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu shot down these claims saying it has nothing to do with Iran.
