80% of marriages in Tehran are unsuccessful

Shahrzadnews - According to Morteza Talayi, head of Greater Tehran Council’s cultural and social committee, 30% of marriages in the Iranian capital end in divorce, and a further 50% in separation. Only 20% can be deemed successful. Talayi told the ILNA news agency: “We need at least a hundred extra specialist counsellors on the Family Support Plan, which helps couples reconcile their differences in the interests of keeping their families together.”

Despite Talayi’s admission of the crisis however, the council has refused to ratify a scheme providing pre-marital education for young couples.
