Iran and North Korea on Saturday signed a number of cooperation agreements and vowed to strengthen their united front against the United States, the website of Iran’s presidential office reported.
"Just like North Korea, the imperialists have also put political pressure on Iran as they don’t want these two states to stay independent and become powerful," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told North Korea's ceremonial head of state, Kim Yong Nam.
Kim Yong Nam was quoted as saying in the meeting that Iran had succeeded in neutralizing unspecified Western plots and had “imposed a heavy political blow on the US and its other enemies.”
The North Korean official, who arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to attend a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, said North Korea was interested in expanding bilateral ties in several fields.
The agreements inked by the sides on Saturday include a student exchange programme and joint scientific research on energy, environment, agriculture and food.
Both countries have been accused by the West of pursuing nuclear weapons capabilities./-
