IHR Strongly Concerned about the Fate of Death Row Prisoners

Iran Human Rights, October 14: The families of the prisoners whose death sentenecs were allegedly not carried out yesterday , do not have any information about the situation and whereabout of their death row family members.

At least 10 prisoners among them Saeed Sedighi were transferred from Ghezelhesar prison to the Evin prison for execution last week. Their death sentences were scheduled to be carried out on Wednesday October 11and then postponed to Saturday October 13. However, due to massive international attention among them a statement from three UN Special Rapporteurs, the death sentences were allegedly not carried out on Saturday and the families were told that the prisoners have been transferred back to the Ghezelhesar prison.

However when the families contacted Gehzelhesar, the prison officials said that the prisoners are not in the Ghezelehsar prison. The families have also contacted Evin and other prisons near Tehran, and all the prisons express lack of any information regarding the death row prisoners.

IHR is strongly concerned about the situation of Saeed Sedighi and the other at leats 10 prsoners. There is absolute lack of news about these prisoners and the families have not managed to get any sign of life or any any kind of contact with the prisoners. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: "We urge the international community to continue their effort to save these prisoners". He added: "The death sentences can be carried out at any moment, and there is no solid evidence indicating that these prisoners are still alive".
