Sharzad News: A series of postage stamps bearing the image of jailed Iranian women’s rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoodeh have been issued in the Netherlands. They can be used for both national and international mail.
Various international campaigns have been launched in support of Sotoodeh, including one by Amnesty International that calls on the Iranian authorities to release the mother-of-two immediately and unconditionally.
Those who would like to buy a booklet containing ten Sotoodeh stamps can order them direct from Shahrzad News, cost €10. This price represents the face-value of the stamps, and Shahrzad News itself will not profit by their sale.
Shahrzad News has already been involved in the production of stamps featuring trade union activist Mansour Ossanloo and Bahai woman Mahvash Sabet, both of whom had been jailed. Another featured Simin Behbahani, a prominent Iranian poet and staunch supporter of the country’s women’s rights activists. Thousand of such stamps were sold and used in campaign-related correspondence. The Dutch Labour Union alone bought five thousand Ossanloo stamps and used them to send postcards drawing attention to his plight.
