Shahrzadnews: The department for women and family affairs at the president’s office has announced that in keeping with its attempts to enforce hejab for all Iranian women, it is seeking to review hairdressing and beauty salons’ codes of practice.
Departmental head Zahra Sajadi told the Fars news agency: “We will start sorting out women’s hairdressing salons after the Ashura religious holiday, in consultation with the minister of interior.”
She added: “These salons have caused a lot of social problems, which – with the help of the health ministry, the medical schools, the industry ministry’s works department and the chamber of commerce – we intend to eradicate.”
“Some of the salons provide tattooing services and botox injections, often by untrained staff, resulting in physical injuries. Some also promote immoral values that can be a detriment to women’s mental health.”
Sajadi said there were currently over fifteen thousand illegal salons in the country.
