Journalist Mohammad Javad Rouh arrested

Committee of Human Rights Reporters – On Sunday March 5th, agents from the Ministry of Intelligence arrested another journalist. According to CHRR, Mohammad Javad Rouh was detained across the offices of the weekly, Aseman, and there is no news of his whereabouts.

Mohammad Javad Rouh has previously served as member of Committee for the Defense of Prisoners’ Rights and Participation Front. In the past years he worked at the banned newspapers Norouz and Yas and also at ILNA news. After the presidential elections of 2009, he worked at Sanaye Daryayi magazine and also served as head of public relations.

This new arrest brings to 19 the number of journalists detained during the wave of arrests that began on January 27th. The next day on January 28th, security officials conducted a simultaneous raid on the offices of 4 reformist news agencies; Etemad, Shargh, Bahar and Arman. Equipped with arrest warrants issued from the judiciary, a number of reporters were arrested in each of the offices. During the few days span aimed at cracking down on the press, a number of other journalists were arrested at their homes.

Of the 18 journalists detained during this wave of arrests, 14 released on bail are Motehareh Shafiee, Ali Dehghan, Javad Daliri, Hossein Yaghchi, Fatemeh Sagharchi, Keyvan Mehregan, Emily Amrayee, Narges Joudaki, Reyhaneh Tabatabai, Akbar Montajebi, Pourya Alemi, Milad Fadai Asl, Soleiman Mohammadi, Pejman Mousavi, and 4 remaining in custody are Nasrin Takhayori, Sasan Aghaee, Saba Azarpeik, and Ehsan Mazandarani.
