Friday 26 April 2013Monitoring of Iranian media to increase during presidential elections
Azerbaijan, Baku, April 26 /Trend S.Isayev, T. Jafarov/ The monitoring of Iranian media during the upcoming presidential elections in the country will be increased, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance for Press and Information Mohammad Jafar Mohammadzadeh said, Fars news agency reported. Mohammadzadeh said that the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance will be working with local media during the elections. He noted that the monitoring will be conducted in two ways - monitoring of the quality of publishing, and monitoring of media following the laws and regulations. Mohammadzadeh said that this monitoring will continue for two months, May and June, and also underscored that the media must be active towards people so there would be high turnout at the elections. "The media must be helping the people, so that they would come out and vote for the best candidate," he said, adding that the above goals should be the most important ones for the media during the elections. In September, the Iranian Interior ministry announced that the country will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013. The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications. Do you have any feedback?
