Prisoner denounces Supreme Leader’s performance

Iranian political prisoner Mohammadreza Motamednia has challenged Iranian Supreme Leader’s competence in managing the country’s affairs.

In a letter addressed to Ayatollah Khamenei, according to Jaras website, Motamednia writes: “So long as the country is not ruled by the constitution, we will not participate in any election.”

The letter reportedly draws attention to the house arrest of Iranian opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi, the lack of a conclusion to the “Kahrizak catastrophe” and the incarceration of numerous protesters of the 2009 election, and stresses that under such circumstances, “maximal participation of the people is a delusion.”

Kahrizak was a detention centre where many of the 2009 elections protesters were tortured. Three detainees died under torture at Kahrizak, and the facility was finally shut down under the order of Ayatollah Khamenei after news of the abuse and the deaths leaked into the media.

Motamednia writes that he no longer has confidence in the Supreme Leader and his circle of confidants: “You and your circle of confidants are a danger and a toll on our dear country and the system. Your mark for management of the country is F.”

Mohammadreza Motamednia was formerly the Chief Executive Command Staff Advisor and has served as an advisor to former ministers in the mining and industry sectors. He was arrested during the protests of 2009 and is serving his sentence in Evin Prison.
