190 human rights activists warn of erosion of women’s rights

Shahrzad News - 190 Iranian women’s rights’ activists have issued a statement to coincide with the eleventh presidential elections. In it they warn that Iranian women’s social and human rights are being denied more than in any earlier period.

Iranian women - half the population of the country - are ‘increasingly the target of numerous political, social and cultural attacks. They pay the high price of enduring the irrational, exclusionary and anti-women policies of the current regime.’

The activists cited the barring of girls from certain university courses, restrictions placed on women seeking work in the public service sector, the repression of equality-seeking feminist groups and individuals, and impelling many women to stay at home as just some of the ways the regime seeks to erode women’s rights.
