Saturday 22 June 2013Resuming the Horror Show After the Show of Democracy
Iran Human Rights: After two weeks of break on the occasion of the Presidential elections, the executions have resumed in Iran. Four prisoners, among them one woman, were hanged in Shahr-e-Kord (western Iran) on Thursday June 20. According to the Iranian daily newspaper Kayhan the prisoners were identified as Mohammad Ebdali, Vahid Fayouj, Golafrooz Fayouj (woman) and Ghobad Fayouj. The four prisoners were convicted of buying, possession and trafficking of 4534 grams of heroin, said the report. The first three prisoners were hanged in the prison of Shahr-e-Kord while the last one (Ghobad Fayouj) was hanged publicly in the "Mahdiyeh" area of Shahr-e-Kord. The prisoner was pulled up by a crane and hanged. It takes normally several minutes when the execution is carried out in this way. The public execution was carried out under heavy security measures. Iran Human Rights (IHR) strongly condemns these executions by the Iranian authorities. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: "It seems that Iran’s Supreme leader Ali Khamenei has restarted its horror show after two weeks of break on the occasion of the show of democracy". Amiry-Moghaddam called on the international community to condemn the executions. Four other prisoners who were convicted of murder were scheduled to be hanged in the Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj (west of tehran) on June 18. Execution of one of the prisoners was carried out while the three others were pardoned by the families of the offended. |
